Johnn P. Fishburn’s Story
Starting at the beginning is always good, but I first have to explain about the names Fishburn vs Fischborn. Phillip was born a Fischborn in Planig Germany. When he came to Colonial America, he changed the spelling to Fishburn. I can only speculate why as no record of its change has survived. It should also be noted that although both Johann Phillip Fischborn and Johan Phillip Fishborn III married Bretz woman, as far as I can tell, the Bretz women were not closely related.
Johann Phillip Fishburn was born in Planig, Germany on May 7th 1722 to Johann Phillip Fischborn (1697-1774) and Anna Catherine Bretz (1703-1772). He immigrated to America in 1749. He was one of the first settlers of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. His original tract of land included much of what is now Hersey, Pennsylvania, the Hersey Chocolate properties, and surrounding farmland.
Johann would go back to Germany in 1752 to bring back his bride Catherine Elizabeth Bretz (1724-1788). They were married in Hummeltown, Pennsylvania. Johann and Catherine would have twelve children. One of those, Johan Ludwig Fishburn (1756-1846), is my 3rd great grandfather. Ludwig would wed Catherine Grimm (1768-1817) in 1789, and together they would have eleven children. All of those children were born in Pennsylvania. One of Ludwig’s and Catherine’s offsprings, Samuel F. Fishburn (1803-1889), was my 2nd Great grandfather and grandfather to Squire. It was Samuel that moved to Brandon Ohio sometime after marring Elizabeth Muma (1801-1876).
Johan Ludwig Fishburn
Johan Ludwig (Lewis) Fishburn (1756-1846) was born and died in Derry, Dauphin, Pennsylvania. Judwig married Catherine Grimm (1768-1817) daughter of David and Christina Grimm. Together they had eleven Children. One of them, Samuel F Fishburn (1803-1889), was my 2nd great-grand father. Lewis fought against the British in the Revolutionary War. He built a limestone house in 1803 on the site where his Father Phillip had built a log cabin. The limestone house is still there, but no longer owned by Fishburns.
Ludwig’s house at 1141 Cocoa Ave, Hershey, Pennsylvania still stands there.
Samuel F Fishburn
Samuel F Fishburn (1803-1889) was born Derry, Dauphin, Pennsylvania. However, he is buried in Brandon, Ohio. Samuel Married Elisabeth Muma (1801-1876) the daughter of John Muma (1765-????). They were married in 1824 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and had eleven children. One of their children, Daniel (1832-1907) was my 1st great-grandfather. In 1852, Samuel migrated his family to Miller township, Ohio. He and his wife are buried in Brandon, Ohio.

Daniel Fishburn
Daniel Fishburn (1832-1907) was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania prior to his father Samuel moving his family to Ohio. Daniel married Matilda V. Babbs (1837-1898) daughter of Jesse Babbs (1811-????) and Sarah Vernon ( 1813-1854). Daniel and Matilda were married in Knox County, Ohio in 1856 and had five children from that marriage. One of their Sons, Squire McCullun Fishburn (1862- 1955) was my grandfather. Squire McCullun Fishburn’s Story
