Squire Fishburn
Born a farmers son, Squire also became a farmer and eventually bought a farm near Brandon, Knox County Ohio. He married his first wife, Maggie B Parlet (1877-1903) on May 9th ,1900 in Geurnsey County, Ohio. They had a son Walter Fishburn (1902-1925). Unfortunately, Maggie Parlet died in 1903 and as was the custom in those days, Walter was sent to a relative Rodha Fishburn Weaver (1857- 1945).
It was on May 4th,1906 that Squire married his second wife, Lucrica Mae Flemming with whom he would have three daughters, Matilda “Tillie” Fishburn Snively (1910-2003), Mary eldora Fishburn Mintier (1913-2011) and Flaudean Fishburn Schlairet (1918-2011).
They all lived on a farm on Mink Road near Brandon Ohio. They had cows and horses for transportation raised sheep and grew corn and other food stuffs. My mother told of rides in the buggy to take milk to the Brandon General store where they would trade for other goods.
She also had a pet lamb at one time named Simpy. Alas what happens to all lambs and sheep, it was sold at auction. Squire warned my mother not to call to Simpy, because if people find out it is a pet, it will not bring as much money. Farm Life.
So they sold the farm and moved to a house on Columbus Road in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Squire would live here the rest of his life. His second wife Lucrica Mae would die on December 28, 1938 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Squire would never marry again. It was at this house that I would visit him each week when my mother would bring him groceries. He always had a horehound candy ready for me. This was in the 1950,s. I was always amazed going there because his kitchen had a hand pump for water, and the toilet was a small house out back.
